At a glance
The J1 meets a specific need: removing floating debris before it settles, with solar power and a basket that is easy to empty. The idea makes sense for a pool exposed to falling leaves. The average rating we recorded is still low, however, and you will need to pair it with floor cleaning in any case.

Dreame J1 : complete overview
A skimmer that works the surface The Dreame J1 is a skimmer robot: rather than cleaning the pool floor, it travels across the water's surface to collect leaves, insects and pollen before they sink. It runs on an 18 W solar panel paired with a 5,000 mAh battery, so it works without a cable and tops up in the sun while it floats.
Planned routes and an easy-empty basket Its sensors plan its routes to cover the surface in 360°. Debris is held in a 5-litre basket that opens with a single press, a welcome detail when you need to empty it often in autumn. The Dreamehome app lets you choose operating modes and handles automatic parking.
A rating to factor in The average rating we recorded is low, at 2.4 out of 5 from around a dozen reviews. Without knowing the exact reasons, that is a prompt to read recent feedback before buying. Also bear in mind that the skimmer supplements a floor-cleaning robot or manual cleaning rather than replacing them, since it only deals with the surface.
